Main Aims

  • To provide gist, specific information and detailed listening practice using a text about India in the context of family and jobs related to railway

Subsidiary Aims

  • To improve their vocabulary knowledge

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (6-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Start with an Indian song called "Chaiyya Chaiyya" to draw their attention. Show them some flashcards and elicit some words, especially the word India by showing Indian map or Taj mahal. ask them "What do you know about India" make them speak to their partners. Ask them write as many things they know about India as possible in a minute. Then I will prompt some words "Gandhi, curry, cricket, the Taj Mahal, Mumbai, New Delhi and Bollywood

Pre-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

More eliciting and teaching some words related with the video. They also answer the questions on page 32. After answering the questions I will remind them the glossary on pg. 32. (colonial times, station master, porter, prediction.) Ask them to make a prediction about a football match in near future or about the weather.

While Listening (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks and, to provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

Ss will watch the video and put the things or people in the order they see them. the video is 3 minutes 15 seconds. After the first watching they will watch it again, they will answer the questions in exercise 3.

While-Listening (4-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Exercise 4a. They will try to remember who said those sentences given in the exercise. They can do it alone or with their partners.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Make them make true sentences about themselves using the example sentences from the book.
