In this lesson Ss will learn how to use and form present perfect tense and how it differs from the past simple tense.

Main Aims

  • To review, practice and clarification of the present perfect and past simple tense in the context of experiences

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of experiences

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-3 minutes) • To set the context

T will show two paintings of Pablo Picasso on the power point.CCQs : what are these? Do like these pictures?why? Then T will ask Ss to work in pairs and discuss the similarities and differences in both pictures.Ss also will be given some useful phrases in order to use them while they are talking about the pictures. T will ask Ss to share their ideas about pictures with other Ss.

Pre-Reading (1-2 minutes) • To make Ss ready for the text

T will write her info on the WB (Iranian,April 9th,Cheerful,Ambitious,Optimistic) and elicit the (Nationality,Born,Personality) from the Ss.

While-reading (2-4 minutes) • To read the text for details

T will give Ss a text about two artists (Picasso & Matisse) and ask Ss to read the text quickly and find out the same information on the WB.Ss will be given a small piece of paper with a table to complete it. T will ask Ss to check their answers with their partners. The answers will be shown up on the WB at the end. Ss might have problems with the adjectives of personality according to their meaning and pronunciation,so T will focus on them as well.

While-reading (2-4 minutes) • To read for comprehension

T will ask Ss to read the text again and answer the questions based on the text and then their answers with their partners. The answers will be shown up on the WB at the end.

Intro to grammar (4-6 minutes) • To clarify the differences between present perfect and past simple tense for Ss

Because it is not the first time Ss encounter these two tenses,T will show examples of present perfect and past simple tense on the WB(I visited Istanbul modern art museum & Pera museum last week but i haven't visited any museums this week) and elicit the verbs and tenses from Ss.After identifying them T will ask Ss some CQs. (1. Did i visit Istanbul modern art & Pera museums?Yes 2.did i visit any museums this week?No 3.Is the last week finished?Yes 4.Is this week finished?No) Then T will give students some small cards with information based on the present perfect and past simple and they have to match them with the right column. T will ask some Ss to come to the WB and do the same for the table on the WB.

Practice of grammer via gap-fill (2-3 minutes) • To check Ss understanding of both present perfect and past simple tense.

T will give Ss a small text and Ss have to complete the text with the present perfect or past simple of the verbs in the brackets. The answers will be shown up on the WB.

Survey (5-6 minutes) • To practice more of the present perfect and past simple tenses in both Q form and sentence.

T will show Ss how to do the survey by giving Ss an example then T will ask Ss to mingle and ask Qs which are written in the survey.

Card game (6-8 minutes) • To practice more of the present perfect tense

T will give Ss small cards with the present perfect Qs. Ss have to ask their partners the Qs on the cards. T will monitor Ss while they are asking each other these Qs.

Ball game (substitution drill) (7-9 minutes) • To practice more of present prefect tense

T will show students how to play the game with one of the students in the classroom. first T will tell a sentence for example (I've been to Dubai twice.) then T will say London and throw the ball to another Student,she/he must say I've been to London twice as soon as she/he catches the ball. T will inform Ss that they can change the Sub,noun,verb. Ss who cannot give the right answer,will lose the game.
