Main Aims

  • To provide practice of Simple past tense (regular verbs mostly) in the context of Treasure

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a Dialogue in the context of Treasure

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T puts a famous pirate's and two friends' pictures on the board and asks some questions to set the context.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

T writes a sentence on the board and gives clues about the topic of the text. Then T hands out the text and wants Ss to read.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T asks some questions to check comprehension. While doing this, T reveals a sentence with target language and writes it on board to highlight it. T wants them to work in pairs to find more regular past forms and clarifies.

Productive Task(s) (10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T separates the group into two/ four and hands out colourful paper for each group. On the board, there will be four categories of past forms of verbs. Ss need to write the correct form on the paper and stick them onto the board. T monitors the class.

Feedback and Error Correction (10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T wants Ss to pick up a piece of paper from the box and wants them to make a sentence with it. While doing it, if they have mistakes, T gives instant feedback.
