Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide practice of quantifiers in the context of a journey in the desert.
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide specific information listening practice using a text about things you can't live without in the context of a journey into the desert.
Procedure (35-45 minutes)
Show them some pictures on the power point about people walking in the desert, people driving very fast and others on a camping journey. Then, ask them if they have been through any of these experiences before. Then, in pairs, they will discuss the questions on the book such as: Have you ever driven or been for a walk in the desert? Would you like to? why/ why not? What do you think are the possible dangers?
I will use the guided discovery method to introduce the grammar. They will listen to the audio and they should fill in the gaps in the sheet provided. Then, they will check the answers in pairs. After that, I will listen to some answers and give them the answer sheet.
They will categorize the quantifiers from the previous task into countable, both and uncountable to check the meaning of them. After they finish the task, I will check the meaning of the quantifiers by asking them concept checking questions such as " does several mean a lot or not many ? does a bit of mean a lot or not many? does plenty mean a lot or not a lot? After that, I will check the pronunciation of several, plenty of and a bit of. On the powerpoint, I will pick a marker sentence to elicit the form.
I will give them a controlled practice sheet. Then, they will check their answers in pairs. After that, I will give the answer key sheet and I will discuss it with them.
I will tell them that I will go on a journey in the desert next week. So, I have to write my " To-Do list". Then, write the things I will take on the board. After that, I will ask them ICQs such as: are you going to write one item or a lot of items? are you going to use the quantifiers? Then, they will discuss their lists in groups.
