Description

In this lesson, students practice using the object pronouns through eliciting the meaning from a text. The lesson starts with a discussion about movies. For examples, talking about their favorite movies, watch a part of the 'Ghost', and let them guess the type of the movie. This is followed by pre-teaching vocabulary. Then, elicit the target language and check the meaning, pronunciation, and form. After that, they will do the reading activity. Finally, they will do the speaking one.

Materials

Abc cards / power point presentation / a reading text / handout

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of the object pronouns in the context of romantic movies.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about classic love stories.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask them some questions.For example, is it a comedy or tragedy? Show them the video of "Ghost" movie. Ask them if they know the movie. Show them a part of it. Ask if they know the type of it (whether comedy, action or horror)

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Divide them into two teams. Give them the story. Give them cards of the subject pronouns. They will read the story and stick the subject pronouns on the object pronouns. Each group will check the other group's card.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

write a marker sentence on the board. Elicit from them the meaning of the object pronoun. Show them the written form. Highlight the difference between the subject pronouns and the object pronouns. repeat the sentences.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Read the text and underline the sentences that include subject and object pronouns. check in pairs. Give them key answer sheet. .

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Give them the worksheet which includes bubbles and they will fill it with their favorite actors, actresses TV shows and bands. In pairs, they will ask each other" what do you think of ......?" " I think he is great, amazing, fantastic, awful etc." If there is extra time, I will let them tell reasons and talk more in details about their favorites.
