Description

In this lesson, students learn about the adverbs of frequency in the context of describing healthy lives based on reading text. this lesson starts with setting the context by asking the Ss about the nationality and the age of the man in the text. This is followed by teaching them the adverb of frequency. Then, practice the reading for gist. Finally, there is a speaking activity.

Abc match the cards/ a reading text /a power point presentation / handouts

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of adverbs of frequency in the context of healthy lives.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about healthy lives in the context of an island in Japan where the people are very healthy.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

set the context by showing the Ss the picture of the old man given in the text and let them guess his age and nationality.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Pre-teach the vocabulary by showing them some pictures on the power point presentation and let them guess the words. Then, make sure that they got the meaning. After that, we will drill on the pronunciation and show them the written form on the slide.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Pick the adverb of frequency from the text and write them down on ex.1)b

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Play the cards game. Ask the students some yes/ no questions to make sure that they got the meaning correctly. Drill on the pronunciation. Show them the adverb of frequency on the power point presentation.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Gives the students Icqs. Answer question 1)d from the course book. Pair checking Open discussion feedback.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Ss read the questions from the powerpoint presentation. Read the passage. try to find the answers Pair checking. Give them the key answer sheet.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

A questionnaire: Show them the activity. Icq the instructions. They will work in pairs. Open discussion.
