Main Aims

  • To provide clarification in vocabulary related to telling time.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To be able to tell time multiple ways through appropriate vocabulary.
  • Distinguish use of "on, at, in" prepositions when telling of time.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Playing 'time' song while students situate themselves. Introductions, greetings through song. Date and weather discussed. Look at various images of clocks from projector (analog and digital).

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Game identifying basic time on hour (ex. 9:00), half-hour, and quarter-hour. Clarifying meaning through question and answer and selecting the appropriate time.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Listening to the times and then enunciating them verbally. Taking turns asking times and answering the time in various cities stated on the page in text.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Writing times on paper from textbook and then transferring info onto board.

Feedback and Wrap up (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Writing answers on board after discussing with partner question/answers of 'On weekdays' 'in the morning' 'at 10 o'clock' etc.
