Procedure (44-53 minutes)
Start the lesson talking about a tour that I went on last summer from Edinburgh to Loch Ness. I will tell them that I had unforgettable memories because of this breathtaking Highland tour during my stay in Scotland, saw some natural beauties and took stunning pictures. Show the pictures on PowerPoint (there will be also some Scottish music at the background), ask them to discuss about the pictures in pairs and answer three following questions; “What kind of natural beauties do you see in the pictures?” , “How is the weather?”, “What can you do there?” Students will discuss and share their ideas in pairs. Afterwards, elicit some answers, and check the similar and different answers.
Give the sts a handout (Exercise) including the text which is divided into four sections and four headings having letters from a to e. Ask them to read the text and find the most appropriate heading for each paragraph and write the letters at the beginning of the paragraphs. Give them two minutes to do the task. Tell them not to worry about the words that they aren’t familiar with. Students will check their answers in pairs first. Then, post the AK on the wall. Ask for the reasons they get their answers in order to check that they have understood the answers from the text rather than just guessing.
Show some vocabulary used in the text on Powerpoint and ask CCQs. Then post the definitions to the different parts of the class and give the words to the Ss In pairs, Ss will stand up, walk around the class and find the right definition of the words. Show the AK on WB.
Give students a list of statements about the text (Exercise 2), ask them to read the text and decide whether the statements are true(T) or false(F). After completing the exercise individually, they will check their answers in pairs. At the end, elicit answers, and ask questions to justify their answers underneath. Get a WCFB on WB.
Hand out the questionnaire. In pairs, students will ask and answer the questions in the questionnaire. After four minutes, ask them to switch their pairs and go on the activity with a new partner for another four minutes. At the end, first they will talk about the questionnaire they hold and then, talk about the answers and ideas they like most. While they are speaking, monitor them and write down some examples of good/bad language to have a delayed error correction at the end of the activity.
In groups of 3 (if there aren't enough students, this can be a pair work), Ss will prepare their own tour leaflet. They will include the information about the route, adult and discount prices, departure/return dates and times, and a few comments from the customers. Then they will post their leaflet on the walls around the class. Finally, they will walk around and decide the best tour. Meanwhile, I will monitor and give delayed error correction where necessary.
