Procedure (35-45 minutes)
T expresses that the topic is national stereotypes and they are going to talk about the typical characteristics of people from some countries. T: "In pairs, talk about what typical characteristics of people are. You have 2 minutes." While Ss are discussing the points, T monitors. After 2 minutes, T asks Ss' opinions.
T explains that Ss are going to listen to four people talking about the typical characteristics of people from their countries (England, Ireland, Scotland and the USA). Before Ss listen, T asks "With your pairs, try to predict what positive and negative characteristics the speakers might mention. You have 3 minutes." T asks ICQs; * What are you going to do now? (predict the characteristics the speakers might mention) * Are you going to do it individually or in pairs? (in pairs) * How many minutes do you have to do this? (3 minutes) T monitors and after 3 minutes, T wants some Ss to express their predictions.
T: " Now, you are going to listen to the speakers. While listening, try to focus on what they say about people from their countries. Match the speakers with their nationalities. Individually." T asks one of the Ss to explain what they are going to do in order to check their understanding. After listening, T: "Compare your answers in pairs." T gets the answers from the pairs.
T explains that Ss are going to listen to two extracts from each speaker and write in the missing words. Before doing so, T wants Ss to read the sentences first in 2 minutes. T: "You are going to listen to the speakers and complete the sentences." T: "Compare your answer in pairs in 2 minutes." (This time, with different pairs.) T gets the answers and asks more questions about the text if necessary.
T expresses that Ss are going to discuss the questions about Ss' own countries and the people. T gets Ss as groups of 3-4 and wants them to discuss the questions in 4 minutes. T monitors closely and notes down the errors. T gets the opinions and asks more questions if necessary. T uses the notes to correct some common errors on the board together with Ss.
