Description

In this lesson students are going to learn how to talk about things they do not like to do and do not do by using simple present negative.

Materials

Abc board game
Abc photocopy of the coursebook
Abc Gap fill hanouts
Abc parts of reading cut in pieces

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of present simple negative in the context of happiness

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide scan reading practice using a text about happiness in the context of things people do/ do not do

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-show students some pictures of activities I do and do not do in order to tell them what makes me happy/ - Ask the students to sit in groups and talk about what they do and do not do

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language by the students own words

- Write some sentences on the board -Explain the grammar via students own sentences -drill the some sentences with backchaining method -ask the students to read parts of the previous reading on page 26 -ask them to underline the sentences with the same structure

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

-Give the students exercise part 1a and ask them to complete -Play the audio and let them check their answers

semi controlled (5-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice freely

-draw a table on the board - ask the students to listen to the audio of exercise 3a and choose the things Moira and Sam do -stick the answers to the board -ask the Ss to make sentences with the rest of the activities left from the exercise in pairs

Freer Practice (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-give students some pictures with the sign of positive and negative -put them in groups -let them choose the sign and picture to make sentences

Freer Practice (5-8 minutes) • to practice the target language freely

-explain the game to the students ( they have to roll the dice and take turns to make sentence with the verbs and who ever makes more correct sentences is the winner) -give them an example -put them in pairs or group ( depending on the students number) -start the game
