To provide a gist reading and an accuracy speaking practice in a conversation using adverbs of the present tense.
Procedure (37-49 minutes)
I use ex.1 as a lead in. I ask students " How do you communicate ? Do you do these things with your friends and family? " I show them a list of communication ways to check if they use and if not, what do they use instead.
I present pictures for the new vocabulary in the text. instant - blog - rude trying to elicit the meanings and check their understanding by asking ccq. instant : can instant message be written on papers ? blog : is it formal ? rude : Does it show respect ? Then i show the word asking them to drill to assure pronunciation.
I show them the reading slides and some minuted to read individually just for scanning to tell me " Is the digital technology makes us lazy ? " I give them a chance to answer freely. I show them the reading slides again asking them to look at the highlighted adverbs in the text to identify which adverbs make another word stronger or less . I explain task b .. I answer the 1st one as example. I give them 1 minute to answer then check together and feedback by the end.
I explain the task for the student and answer the 1st one as an example to make sure they all can understand. i give them 1 minute to answer individually. i ask them to check in groups if possible. i give them feedback . i follow the same steps with the following practice.
I explain the task encouraging them to use the adverbs they learnt to speak how frequently they do something. i give an example. i ask someone to ask me and i show how to answer. i ask them to work in pairs.
I follow the same procedures for all the coming exercises. i set the task with examples. i give them minutes to answer. we check orally and give feedback.
