Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of present perfect and past simple in the context of 'an argument about money."

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of "The money questionnaire"

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start the class with: MONEY can't buy happiness, can it? and continue it with a short personal story, asking students to talk about their stories.

Exposure (5-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

- I ask some questions about the picture in 2a. - They guess the answers individualy at first and then in their pairs. - At the end they should listen to the CD and check their answers.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

-Highlighting 1 simple past sentence and 1 present perfect sentence from the conversation.( It arrived this morning and we haven't paid the phone bill yet.) -Dividing the board to two sections, one for simple past and one for present perfect. giving the structure of these sentences and their meaning by the help of elicitation.

Controlled Practice (4-6 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

- Students answer the questions individually and then check them in their pairs. - I provide them with the correct answers.

Semi-Controlled Practice (5-8 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

- Students are going to answer them individually and check the answers in their pairs. - I provide them with the correct answers.

Free Practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Presenting part 3, put them in groups or pairs and ask them to do the activity.
