Procedure (35-45 minutes)
Ask Ss: Imagine your grandparents. How much could they understand your life? Elicit some ideas.Tell Ss they are going to watch a video. Ss watch the video "Coca-Cola Advert - Grandpa - Living a Healthy Lifestyle". Ask Ss to discuss differences they can see between the man today and his grandfather in groups. Ss share their ideas in groups. Ask Ss to give you a brief description of what they have seen. Ask Ss: Do you remember the article from the 1st lesson? What was it about?
Focus Ss' attention on the article Is Technology Killing Human Interaction? Ask them to look at the first two paragraphs and find sentences about John and Erika's past habits. Ss peer check. W/c FB.
Meaning: Check that Ss are clear about the difference between actions (something you do) and states (a way of being) in the past. Give instructions. Distribute the Guided Discovery HO to Ss. Ss complete the rules individually and then peer-check. Ss check their answers against the answer keys on the board. Then Ss move to the next exercise and circle the verbs that can be used with would. Ss peer-check and check answers against the answer keys on the board. W/c FB: Do used to and would refer to the present or past? Do they refer to actions that happened once or many times? Do they refer to actions that we still do or that are finished? Form: Ss complete the substitution tables with the correct forms. Ss peer-check. Show Ss the answers on the w/b. Pay Ss' attention to Remember box and explain that there will be a change of the meaning. W/c FB: Ask: Which verb form follows used to or would? (both followed by a bare infinitive) How does used to change when used as a positive, negative and question? Pronunciation: Ss answer the questions individually and then peer-check. W/c FB.

Turn back to the video from the Lead-in. Ss watch the video again and then in pairs comment on the differences they have seen in the video. Encourage them them to use the target language. Encourage discussion of the following points: healthy eating, stress, working conditions, means of transport, relationships, habits. W/c FB. Give Ss the HOs. Ss work in groups and discuss the questions. Monitor and provide help if needed. Take some notes for delayed error correction. W/c FB. Do some delayed error correction.
