Asks the class to imagine that they are staying there.Do they think it will be a nice hotel?Would they like to stay there?Elicit reasons.Teacher do not confirm any of their ideas yet.Later in the lesson, teacher can remind students of their first thoughts.
Teacher writes on the WB (a) programme (b) hotel (c) people (d) jobs (e) why? Teacher tells students that they are going to listen to part of a radio programme in which two people stay at this hotel. They will first listen to the openning of the programme and ask them to find out (a) the name of the programme (b)the name of the hotel (c)the names of the two people (d)the jobs of the two people (e)why they went to the hotel Teacher plays only the presenter's opening speech( up to ...in Brighton to find out) and then get students to check their answers in pairs and then with the whole class. when teacher make sure that students are clear about the basic situation continuou with the rest of the listening.
Teacher gives the students hand outs and tells that they will listen the rest of the recording and tick the problems they hear and then get students to check their answers in pairs and then with the whole class.
Students are given a list of the mixed events that are happening in the recording. Teacher tells students to listen to the recording again and put the events in the order that they happened and then get students to check their answers in pairs and then the teacher gives students the answer key.
Teacher pre-teach some useful words that students might not know (e.g. sheets ,towels, discount) and gives each student either guest's or receptionist's information. Tells them to read the information and then teacher divides the class into two.Guests stand on one side and receptionists stand on the other side of the class and matches them.Teacher then tells the students to discuss the problems and find a solution. Guest : You are a guest staying at a hotel. The hotel website says it is a luxury hotel, but in your room the sheets and towels are dirty, the bathroom is too small, the street outside is very noisy and ... (you decide two more problems). You want to change to a better room and you want a discount. Talk to the receptionist and solve the problem. Receptionist: You are a hotel receptionist. There is a guest staying at the hotel who complains about everything, even when there isn’t a problem. You can move a guest to a different room, but you can’t change the price of a room. Talk to the guest and solve the problem.
