Description

In this lesson, Ss learn about the second conditional through a reading text about the ideal home. The lesson starts with a discussion about "living at home with parents". This is followed by a reading activity where the Ss read the article about young people who live with their parents. Finally, there is some controlled practice and speaking activity.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher asks Ss "Did you come here from work or home? or maybe universality?" . Hopefully some of them say "from home". Teacher asks them "Who do you live with?" . Then teacher shows the photo and asks them to describe it and answer the question: "Which of the two houses would you prefer to live in? why?" . Peer check. W/C FB.

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide a model of the target language and highlight useful words and phrases

Teacher explains about article and asks Ss to find out "How many of the people would like to leave home? Why?". Teacher gives handout. Peer check. W/C FB.

Task 1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to understand the meaning and form with in a text

Teacher asks Ss to look at the article again and answer the questions (ex, d) in pairs. W/C FB.

Language Analysis (10-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the task language

Teacher uses highlighted phrases in the text to clarify the meaning and form on the board. Teacher uses CCQs to clarify the meaning and elicits the form (second conditional) from Ss. Teacher plays the track 4/18 to emphasis on sentence stress ( drill chorally).

Task 2 (12-14 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target language

Teacher explains exercise a and gives handout. Teacher asks Ss to do exercise a in pairs. Teacher gives answer sheet. Peer check. Teacher highlights the difference between first and second conditional by using CCQs and a controlled practice (ex, b). Teacher asks Ss to do exercise b in pairs. Teacher gives answer sheet. Peer check.

Language Practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language

Teacher makes group of 4 to practice speaking activity. Teacher gives handout and asks Ss to discuss it in their groups. Teacher monitors and helps if Ss need.
