To provide accuracy in a speaking activity while practicing the new vocabulary.
Procedure (43-57 minutes)
- T shows some pictures about technological devices. - SS try to guess what they are and where they use it. - T asks the SS how machines and technology have changed the world, and if they have made it a better or a worse place. - SS try to give their opinions in pairs. - T monitors.
- SS form pairs - T hands out task 1B. - SS try to underline the unknown vocabulary. - SS try to categorize the words in pairs. - T monitors but doesn't provide feedback.
-T gives clues to elicit the meaning, T might use the synonyms or opposites of the words. - T concept checks the meaning. T might provide visual/sound prompts. - T asks which parts of speech the words belong to. Is it a verb? Is it an adverb? Is it an adjective? Is it a noun? - T drills the new problematic vocabulary. - T writes on the board to show word stress.
- SS re-group the word web in pairs if necessary. - SS check each other. - T monitors and provide an answer sheet for each pair. - SS form groups of 3/4. - T focus attention to the first word web and elicit more examples. - SS try to add more words to each word group. (5 minutes time limit) - T monitors. - T hands stick-ups and one student from each group come and stick the answers on the board. - All SS go and check the added words. - SS discuss if they are OK for the category or not. - T monitors and provides delayed feedback.
- SS form small groups. - SS discuss which items they have used during the last 1 week. SS also talk about where and when they use these items. (4 to 6 minutes) - SS compare ideas in small groups. - SS from each group is nominated and share what they know about what one of their group members used during the last 1 week.
