Main Aims

  • To provide review and practice of "there is/there are" in the context of different places

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a dialogue in the context of different places

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show a picture and ask them to tell me "what do you see in this pic?". Then give them some more pictures to talk and describe what is there.

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will elicit two or three sentences from students and write them on the board.

Highlighting (8-10 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will highlight the structure of the sentences. Then give them cut-out papers to put together in the correct order.

Clarification (4-6 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will minimize presentation part, since this grammar is not new for students. I will also demonstrate negative and question forms eliciting the sentences from the ss.

Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students will work in pairs asking each other "Is there/Are there?" questions to find out what place is in the picture. During this activity I will monitor them.

Free Practice (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students will describe their neighborhood in 2 or 3 minutes using "there is/there are" structures.
