To provide accuracy speaking practice in using the TL in conversation in the context of My City
Procedure (22-32 minutes)
- Teacher greets the students and says 'I want to tell you about my hometown' - Show the slide of some pictures of Istanbul and tell a little bit about the city e.g. Istanbul is very beautiful. / We have Aya Sofia, Kız Kulesi, Galata Tower, the Bosphorus, etc. - Teacher asks the students 'where are you from?' - Students answer and the teacher moves on to the next stage
-Teacher gives the reading part - Students read quickly and answer the two questions at the bottom - Students check answers with partners - Students directly give answers to the teacher
- Give the students the exercise 1.2 folded (so the students can only see the exercise first) - Students check with a partner - Show the answer keys
- Teacher demonstrates to the students how to unfold the paper and read the guided discivery worksheet - After that, the teacher asks questions related to meaning, form and pronunciation. - Students do exercise 1.3 - Teacher listens and takes notes for feedback and praises the students' good use of the TL
- Teacher hands out exercise 2.1 to draw their attention to the TL - Prepositions of Place - Students do the exercise with a partner - Teacher gives the answer keys
- Teacher writes the following sentence 'The ball is ______________ hat.' - Teacher writes the TL on the board. e.g. between, in front of, etc. - Teacher holds a hat and a ball and acts as if it is a magic show - Teacher puts the ball in the hat, points to the prepositions and elicits the answer from the students so they could fill the blank in the sentence above - Teacher keeps changing the position of the ball for other prepositions and use other objects if needed - Teacher corrects errors - Give the prepositions visual aid
- In twos, each students takes A or B side of the picture - Students make a comparison by spotting the differences using the TL - Teacher listens and takes notes for delayed feedback and praises good language use
