To provide review of departure, arrival, terminal, passport control, customs in the context of airport
Procedure (35-46 minutes)
Ask students to brainstorm airport vocabulary in pairs Show the example how to make it- spider gram Put SS in pairs set time 2 min Give out papers to draw Elicit ideas from each pair- put some vocabulary on w/b
Ex 1b Ask students to match airport signs and words Set time 2-3 min Put them in pairs Give out H.O. Ask them to swop their works Tell SS to put tick for correct and cross for wrong answers they see Play audio to check Swop back to see mistakes Show some visuals of vocabulary on the board Elicit language Show correct pronunciation if any difficulties Drill with whole class
Ask students to look at the picture Show picture Give handouts Set the task to guess who is who NGO(non-govermental organization) explain by showing famous ones (photos) give synonyms ( volunteering, working for social projects, for humanitarian needs, help other people, money is not important, impact and effect- important) Change pairs by papers with numbers Ask them to predicts plans of people Stick their answers with names on the board
Tell SS that they are going to listen to check their predictions Play the audio once Ask SS to come to the board and pick up papers with correct answers Nominate people whose guesses were right
Show SS H.O for this activity Tell that they are going to listen again Show what to write and where to write Students do this activity individually, so they don't need to change their places Give them H.O. Play recording one more time put them in pairs according to the word on the other side of H.O ( for example it can be 'departure') SS who have 'departure' go to departure sign for SS FB
Tell SS that they are going to listen one more time but this time they need to fill in the gaps with some grammar items (TL) Show H.O. for this activity Play the recoding till the 1 gap, do first gap together Continue audio SS work on their own They have gate number on the other side of the page where they will have SS FB with answers
İntroduce speaking game Show an example how to choose questions Let them play in pairs or groups of 3( depends on number of people) but 3 will be better to my mind because this way they can hear more ideas and more language Let them play Monitor
