Description

In this lesson, ss practice grammar (Adverbs of manner through the context of feeling) and speaking for fluency. The lesson starts with a lead in, to introduce the difference between adjectives and adverbs by showing some pictures to the ss and elicit meaning and drill the pronunciation of the words. Then the T show the ss the rule of adverbs spelling. The controlled practice activity is a sentence completion and choosing the correct word. The semi-controlled speaking practice is the ss describe themselves by choosing the adverb which is given in the exercise. Then they have to guess how their partner does things by writing the adverb. When they finish guessing the ss work in pairs to find out if their guessing was right or wrong. If time allows ss will do listening exercise to practice pronunciation.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead in (7-10 minutes) • To creat interest inthe topic

Show pictures of a turtle, old man driving a car and Ronaldo a famous footballer. ask the ss to describe the pictures. The turtle is slow. the turtles move slowly. The old man drives the car slowly. Ronaldo is a good footballer, he plays well Explain to the ss that we use the adverbs of manner to say how we do something. Adverbs of manner usually go at the end of the sentence . To make an adverb of manner, you usually add ly to the adjective quiet-quietly slow-slowly bad-badly For adjective that end in -y, change the y to ily. easy-easily noisy-noisily There are some adverbs that don't change. Late-late fast-fast hard-hard early-early The adverb for good is well He is a good player, he plays well.

Gap-fill (5-7 minutes) • to practice using adverbs

Choosing Adverbs (8-10 minutes) • To practice accuracy and fluency

Ss will be given HO with include adverbs to describe how they do things. When they finish they have to guess how their partners do things, after that they ask their partners to find out if their guessing were right. Listening (5-8 minutes) • To practice pronunciation

If time allows have the s-s listen to the recording and underline the stressed syllable in the adverbs. After that the ss listen to four dialogues and choose from the list which adverb describe each dialog
