To provide gist reading practice using a text about technology in the context of machine.
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide review of technology in the context of machines and discuss about the inventions in the last 100 years.
Procedure (25-48 minutes)
- The teacher shows the real machines in the classroom and then the pictures about inventions on the wall. - The whole class starts to discuss about 'which one is the most important invention?' which one may be the first invention? which one do we use a lot in our daily life? which one is the most beneficial invention?
-The teacher teaches 'long-distance travel, invent, influential,set out, affordable, amplifier' through ECDW.
-T projects the picture of the reading text and the whole class previews the picture and discusses about the title.
-The ss read the paragraphs individually and match the headings from a to e. -When they finish, the ss check the answers in pairs. -The whole class discusses the answers.
- The ss read the text quickly and find details about numbers and information individually. -Then, the teacher divides the ss into two groups and the ss find the related sentences around the classroom. When they finish finding the sentences, the ss check what the sentence is about.
-The teacher divides the ss into two groups. - The teacher gives three different questions for each group. -The ss answer the questions with their group. -Then two students from each group comes and explain the questions. -Finally, two students from each group go out and find the answer and check their answer in pairs.
- The teacher distributes true-false exercise. -The ss read and find which sentence is true or false individually and check the answers in pairs. -Then, the ss unfold the paper to check the answers.
- The teacher divides the ss into three groups 'Group Medicine, Group Education and Group Travel' and gives them the topic about technology. -The ss write their notes while discussing and brainstorming. -Teacher monitors when they discuss. -When they finish their discussion, the teacher sticks three papers on the wall. -Finally, the whole class discusses which ideas are true or not.
