Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide detailed reading practice using a text about functional language at work.
Procedure (46 minutes)
I will ask Ss if we use the same kind of language at work, at school and at home. I'll try to get some answers which would guide me to functional language and interest Ss in new vocabulary, which is related to work.
I'll put Ss into groups and and ask them to work together and put list of the new words into 3 categories (positive, negative and neither). Once Ss finish, they'll put the words on the w/b into the columns for everyone to check their answers.
I'll give Ss pieces of tape script and exercise 1 at the same time, explaining that they need to fined their answers to the exercise from the tape script, by quickly scanning the text. They'll do it by themselves and once finished, I'll put everyone in pairs to compare the answers. After which I'll put the answers on the w/b for everyone to check their answers.
I'll give Ss new exercise, where they'll match new words with their meanings, by drawing line from word to their definition. For this activity, Ss will work in pairs and help each other with answers. Once finished, I'll get FB from the whole group and do pronunciation drill with whole group.
I'll give students exercise 3 and let them complete it by themselves and once finished compare their answers with their partners. After that, Ss will put their answers on the w/b for everyone to see. If any time left: I'll ask Ss in pairs to read the dialog to each other.
I'll introduce Ss to a game 'Pros and Cons', during which Ss will be encouraged to use new vocabulary while playing. I'll also, put few model sentences on the w/b for Ss to use.
