In this lesson, students will learn about Simple Present Tense. They will also practice their Productive Skills - Writing.

  • To provide process and product writing practice of a Simple Present Tense Paragraph in the context of Describing a host with good social skills
  • To provide clarification, review and practice of Simple Present Tense with He and She

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide process and product writing practice of a Concluding Sentence

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will greet the students in the classroom. T will tell the Ss that will play a NAME GAME. Description the of the game: Write cards with the names of people the students will know (classmates, people in the school, politicians, TV stars.) Hand one card to each student. Each student now writes five sentences using he/she's (She's old. She's a politician.) When ready, students read out the sentences and others guess who is being talked about. You could use negatives as well (She isn't a teacher). Extend the activity by allowing students to ask questions (Is she old? Is she a politician?)

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T will inform the Ss about the aim of the lesson: a. Use the simple present with and she b. Use frequency adverbs with be c. Write a concluding sentence d. Use it with when to explain a feeling e. Write paragraphs describing a host with good social skills. TASK #1 T will ask the Ss to answer Activity A in page 32 for 2 minutes. Instruction from the book: Write the correct number from the pictures next to each item in the box. Work alone and exhange your answer to your seatmate when you are done. ICQ: Are you going to work alone or with a partner? (Alone) Are you going to check your answer yourself or with a seatmate? (With a seatmate) After the task, T will give error correction and feedback. TASK #2 T will ask the Ss to answer Activity B in page 33. Instruction from the book: Circle the correct phrase to describe each picture. Now I want you to work with a partner and answer activity B for 2 minutes. After you finished answering the task, exchange your answer with another pair. ICQ: Are you going to work alone or with a partner? (With a partner) Are you going to check your own work or exchange with another pair? (With another pair) After the task, T will give error correction and feedback. TASK #3 T will ask the Ss to answer Activity C in page 33 with a partner for 2 minutes. Instruction from the book: Write the phrases in the correct boxes to descibe what hosts and guests do. ICQ: Are you going to work alone or with a partner (With a partner) After the task, T will give error correction and feedback.

Introducing Grammar Rules (8-10 minutes) • To explain the rules of Simple Present and Frequency Adverbs with B

T to explain grammar and spelling rules to the students. After the task, T will give error correction and feedback. T will follow the 1st P in PPP strategy - Presentation

Controlled Practice (10-15 minutes) • To practice the Ss knowledge about the grammar rules

This phase is the 2nd P of PPP strategy - Practice. ACTIVITY A, B and C (page 34) 1. T will ask the student to read the paragraph alone (The Center of the Family) 2. T will ask the Ss to answer to activity B alone. 3. After the activity, T will ask Ss to exchange their answer with their seatmate. 4. T will give feedback and error correction about Activity B. 5. T will ask Ss to work in pairs and answer activity C in page 34. 6. T will give feedback and error correction about Activity C. ACTIVITY D and E (page 36 and 37) 1. T will ask Ss to answer D and E with a partner. 2. T will give feedback and error correction about Activity D and E. ICQ: Are you going to work alone or in pairs? (In pairs) ACTIVITY F (page 37) 1. T will ask Ss to work in pairs and answer activity F. 2. T will give feedback and error correction about Activity F. ICQ: Are you going to work alone or in pairs? (In pairs)

Pre- Writing (10-17 minutes) • To give Ss preparation before the writing task

Part 1: Preparation (page 38 and 39) 1.T will ask students to answer task A and B with a partner. 2. After the task, T will give error correction and feedback. Note: Before answering task C, T will explain writing stategy on how to write a concluding sentence. 3. T will ask Ss to answer task C with a partner. 4. After the task, T will give error correction and feedback. Part 2: Pre- Writing (page 40) 1. T will ask students to answer task A,B, C and D. 2. After the task, T will give error correction and feedback.

Writing (15-20 minutes) • To practice Ss writing skills (Writing, Revising, Editing and Publishing)

This phase is the 3rd P of PPP strategy - Production. T will ask the Ss to answer the task in page 41, 42 and 43 individually. After the task , teacher will give feedback and error correction ICQ: Are you going to work alone or with a partner? (alone)

Post - Writing (Freer Practice) (5-10 minutes) • To let Ss write on their desired topic using the Present Simple Tense.

T to ask Ss to write something about their favorite song individually. ICQ: Are you going to work alone or with pairs? (alone) After the task, T will check the Ss paragraph. ASSIGNMENT: Then, T will give the Ss an assignment in page 38 (Who has good social skills?)
