To enable Ss to Identifying the uses of the present perfect simple and continuous and using both tenses in the context reading about relationship.
Subsidiary Aims

To give Ss an opportunity to construct sentences in the present perfect simple and continuous and speak for fluency in the context of speaking about past experiences.
Procedure (25-37 minutes)
Write two sentences on the board: I've cleaned my shoes. He's been waiting for you for two years. Post two pictures on the board, SS match the pictures with the sentences. Ask what tense each sentence is. Ask CCQs: Picture 1: When did he start waiting? sixty years ago. Is he still waiting now? Yes. Picture 2: Are his shoes clean? Yes. When did he clean them? In the past. Do we know when exactly? No.
Show the HO (P.23) to the SS. Point to the three sentences and the chart in ex.1 and ask Ss to fill in with the correct sentence. Ss work in pairs. Show the answer key on the board (1. b/ 2. a/ 3. c). Draw 2 timelines on the board for each tense and ask Ss to match each timeline with one of the tenses. Show the answer on the board.
Point to ex.2 on p.23 Draw attention to the example. Ask them if the speaker is still learning English. Ask Ss how long they have been learning English. Where does the sentence go in the chart in ex.1? Ask them to work in pairs and choose the correct tense. Show the answer key on the board. Is any of the sentences true for you? Tell your partner.
Point to ex.3 on p.23 Draw attention to the first example. Ask Ss to make questions using one of the tenses and refer to the chart in ex.1 for reference. Ss compare answers in pairs. Show answer key. Ss work with different pairs and ask and answer the questions.
Show Ss HO (SB Pp 116/121). Divide the class in groups. Ss complete the sentences individually by predicting what their partners might answer. Ss work in pairs and ask each other the questions and see if their predictions were right or wrong.
