Procedure (35-46 minutes)
Ask the students: "What comes to your mind when you hear the Turkish street food?" and elicit some of the food. Show some Turkish food pictures and questions about them on the board. Ask the students to discuss the questions in pairs. Talk about the questions as a whole class
Ask some questions about the text and connect the lesson to the reading text. What about satay? It is like chicken shish, isn't it? Do you remember where it was? etc. Elicit the example sentences from the students and show them on the board.
Ask some concept check questions related to the example sentences. After clarifying the general meaning, give a table to the students about detailed meanings. Ask the students to look at the text and write the blue words in the correct boxes. Do the first one as an example on the board. Give the HO related to activity and state verbs. Ask some questions and show a few examples on the board. Ask the students to write S or A next to the verbs. Give the HO prepared for clarification of form. Elicit the form of the positive sentence on the board. Ask the students to write the negative sentence and question. Drill the same sentences for pronunciation. Focus on contraction and sentence stress. Write extra examples on the board.
Give the HO prepared for controlled practice to the students. Ask the students to fill in the gaps with the present simple or the present continuous individually. Ask them to check their answers in pairs. Elicit the answers from the students and show them on the board.
Show the "Top 5 Changing Habits" HO and ask the students to look at the list. Tell them that there are some changing items in the box. Choose three of them and make sentences with the present continuous tense. The first and second sentences are given as an example.
Show the HO prepared for freer practice. Ask the students to make questions and put the verbs in the Present Simple and Present Continuous. Elicit the answers and show the answer key. Then, give the students some roles. (A: Tourist B: You're from Antalya. Your mission is to introduce Turkish food) Ask the students to speak in pairs. Use the questions that they make. Also, tell the students that they will ask follow-up questions. Monitor the class while they are speaking. Take some notes for delayed feedback.
