Main Aims

To provide practice in reading for gist and detail and to practice vocabulary in the context of places in a town or city.
Subsidiary Aims
-
To review frequency of adverbs in the context of places and how often they visit there. To apply vocabulary knowledge about places in a town or city for the reading tasks.
Procedure (45-55 minutes)
-Have projector ready to project the context. -Have handouts ready to deliver. -Write 'Home Town' to the board for brainstorming activity. -Ask students to discuss in pairs what comes to their mind about Home Town. -Elicit places from Ss to write on the board. eg. building,theatre,shopping malls
-Tell the Ss that they need to match the words to the pictures. (6A- ex.1) -Give HOs for each student. -Monitor and help the Ss when necessary. -Ask students to check their answers in pairs. -Project the words and pictures of the places in order. -Have Ss pronounce the words and practice word stress appropriately. -Listen to the words and practise again. -Ask students to practise saying the words in pairs.
-Show the picture of the text and tell the Ss they will be reading a text which is about Susan's Home Town. -Ask Ss to scan the text and answer the following questions individually. Which city is the text about? What is Bath famous for? What places are there in the centre of Bath? What is the name of the big shopping centre? -Ask Ss to check their answers in pairs. -Project the answers on the board.
-Ask Ss to listen to the text to tell if Susan likes living in Bath or not. -Ask them why they think She likes living in Bath. -Ask Ss to look at the text and tick the true sentences and if the statements are false they need to correct them in pairs. -Monitor and help when necessary. -Project the answers.
-Give Ss HOs in which there are 2 questions to help them write about their home towns. Where is your home town? What is your favourite place to visit in your hometown? -Ask Ss to change their papers. -Ask them to talk about each other's home town.
