Dating and relationships.
Elementary level

Description

In this lesson, students will describe appearance, personality traits and interests by express their feelings about love, dating and their ideal partner.

Materials

Abc Handouts, powerpoint, pictures, postcard template, projector, white board, sheets of paper.

Main Aims

  • To provide accurate speaking practice in a context of dating.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide a listening and reading practice using a text about dating and love.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (6-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- Before playing the video, ask students to watch then answer the following question: - Are they happy? - Play the video and elicit "dating" and "relationship" from the video. - Do you like to live with s.o like this ? - Ask them to think of different types of dating they know. - Elicit using pictures ( online dating, speed dating and blind dating)

Exposure (7-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

- Show photos of some famous people and ask them to give one 1 adjective to describe each one of them. - Demonstrate the first picture - Ask them : "What's your idea of an ideal partner?" ( List 3 adjectives)

Listening specific information. (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for the coming productive task

- Give short and clear instructions: You're going to read the text quickly, listen to a song and fill the gaps with the suitable words. ICQs: Are you going to read quickly or slowly ? - Check answers PPT

Productive Task (freer practice) (15-18 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills: Speaking.

- The word speed dating should be exposed in the pre-teaching stage. - The teacher explains that SS are going to play a role play in which hypothetically speaking they're going to ask each other questions about their age, job, hobbies and interests ... This activity should be extended as much as needed to let students talk about their personal lives, share experiences and express their ideas about their ideal partner. - The teacher monitors without intervening to keep them well at ease. - The last check will be their choice for the perfect partner as a final result.

Feedback and Error Correction (3-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Few comments on their use of language. The most important aim is their spoken production and accuracy. They should be encouraged regardless of any output. What's essentiel is that they take confidence talking about this topic. That's why the teacher should use positive comments.

Write a secret letter (few sentences) to your ideal partner using the vocabulary learned in this lesson.
