Procedure (35-48 minutes)
A photo of a bed is shown to Ss to elicit "a bed" which is then put on the w/b. Afterward, two photos of the same bed are shown to Ss. The elicited "two beds" is again put on the w/b. The w/c FB is taken for "a" and "s" ending. The same procedure will be repeated for the word "armchair". Next a quarter of a photo of water is shown to Ss to elicit "water" without "a". This will be followed by showing the other three quarters to complete one photo of water with each part accompanied by the word "water" on the w/b. the same procedure will be followed for sugar. Again the w/c FB is taken for the absence of "a" and "s" ending". Then the Ss are told the first two words are countable and can be used with indefinite article or "s" and the last two words are uncountable and cannot take "s" or be used with indefinite article. One or two more examples are given and Ss are asked to say which category they belong to. The HO of a list of nouns are given out the Ss are put in pairs to find both types of nouns by writing "C" or "U" in front of them. A w/c is finally taken.
The sentence "There are two armchairs in my house" is put on the w/b. Then it is rewritten with a question mark instead of the number 2. "There are ...?... armchairs in my house" to elicit the question "How many armchairs are there in your house?". Following that the word armchair can be replaced by some countable nouns. A w/c FB is taken. The question is put on the w/b with the focus on plural form of the noun. The students are put in open pairs to put different countable nouns instead of armchair. The same process goes with the sentence "My house is 100 m2" which can lead to the question "how much space is there in your flat?"
The Ss are told they are going to fill the gaps in a questionnaire with "how many" or "how much". The questionnaire HOs are given out. Ss are told to do this task in pairs in 2 or 3 minutes. The w/c FB is taken.
Ss are told to ask their partners the same questions they have just completed. One model is done with one of the students. After 3 to 4 minutes each pair compares its answer with the pairs next to them. The w/c FB is taken.
Get Ss to look at the advert on page 40 in pairs and find things that they think are good about the flat. After at most 2 minute, a w/c FB is taken.
First, the estate agent is pre-taught as someone whose business is buying and selling houses or lands. Then the Ss are asked what they see in the photo on page 41. A w/c FB is taken. Then they are told they are going to listen to a conversation between a real estate agent and Alex. HOs are given out. They are asked to put the items in order but to do an ICQ, the listening is played for the first time until it reaches the first correct answer. Afterward, the Ss compare their answers in pairs and finally a w/c FB is taken.
The Ss are told they are going to listen to the conversation again but this time to find if some sentences are true or false. The true-false HO's are given out. The audio is played until the answer of the first question for the sake of ICQ. Then the listening is played from the beginning. The Ss share their answer with their partner after listening is finished and then a w/c FB is taken.
