Procedure (35-48 minutes)
Asking questions about Mexico by showing the maps and put an extra emphasis of the use articles such as: Where is Mexico? Is it neighbor of Turkey like Greece? What's THE capital of Mexico? Is the capital of Mexico Ankara? What kind of things comes to your mind when you think of Mexico? A tequila? A maraca (shaking musical instrument) ? A big hat? A cactus? Eliciting vocabulary from the previous lesson about travel. Would you like to travel to Mexico? How can you go there? By bus? By train?...etc
-Using the map to elicit the word "border". CCQs: Pointing the sea, "do you see any border in the sea?" "What do you need to have borders on a map?" "Does Mexico have any border with other countries or is it an island in the middle of the ocean?" Asking how many people are there in Turkey to elicit the word "population". Using the word "border" to elicit "surrounding area". Showing a traditional piece of Mexican costume like a big hat to elicit "traditional". "Sombrero is a Mexican traditional Hat." -Drilling activity.
Giving clear instructions, clear ICQs 3a."Look at the handout, fill in the caps with articles like a, an, the or no article." -Swapping handouts, peer-check, group check. 3b. "Work in pairs. Look at the words in bolds. Are they true or false?" -Swapping handouts, peer-check 3c-Check the answers as a group on page 133.
Put them into groups Tell them they are going to create their own Turkey Quiz or World Quiz. Support them by eliciting/providing some categories (cities, geography, food, people etc.) They can use their phones to get info from the internet for their question They have 10 minutes to write 7 questions as group. (ICQ: "How many questions do you write?" (showing the number with fingers)) Ask their questions to another group who will try and answer. Afterwards get feedback to see which group got the most answers.
