Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, students will have practised new vocabulary in the context of describing and characterizing different career options (jobs).

Subsidiary Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, students will have practised writing, asking, and answering questions in the context of a job interview.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students will identify the jobs and then discuss which ones they like/dislike the most.

Test #1 (3-5 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

In pairs, students are going to categorize the words and phrases into 3 columns, discussing their opinions at the same time.

Teach (8-10 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

Focus on FORM, MEANING and PRONUNCIATION. - Physically (vs mentally) fit - Qualifications vs training - Challenging (the picture demonstrates difficulty) - Competitive (as in competition: return to previous pictures and the new one of Med Ali Klay in a battle) - Secure vs challenging? - Responsibility

Test #2 (3-5 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Using the vocabulary from practice 1 that the teacher has already made clear, students will have to replace the definition with the adequate word/phrase.

Freer practice (15-20 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students will be divided into two groups. One group will be the interviewers. They will be in charge of designing the right questions for the interviews. The second group will be the applicants. They need to work on how they are going to present themselves in order to get the job. Afterwards, the interviewers choose ONE winner.
