Procedure (32-28 minutes)
Talk about a time when you have to wait for 3 hours. Tell them what you did while you waited. Ask ss what they do when they have to wait. Students speak with each other. Give them feedback.
Ask ss to check their predictions from the text. Tell students that there are going to be new words they don't know. Tell them not to worry about it. Students read the text to see if their predictions are the same or different. Give them feedback
Tell ss that the text uses same language with can and can't. Prepare two categories named Possibility and Ability and stick them to the board. Print out the "can and can't" sentences from the text seperately and give them to students. Ask them to read the sentences and put them into categories in pairs. (if they are less than three students, alone.) Do one for example. Monitor and ask them to come to the board and stick their sentences. Give feedback.
Prepare a grammar box. Ask ss to fill the blanks in pairs. (again, alone if they are less than 3) Monitor. Ask them to check their answers. Give feedback. Do drilling.
Cutting Edge SS Book Elementary page 45. Ex 1.a Ask ss to fill the blanks. Pair check. Play the record for feedback.
Page 45. Ex. 2 Ask ss to listen Mei Ling talking about things you can and can't do in Hong Kong. ICQ for putting ticks and cross. Play the record. Monitor. If they cannot do it. Play it one more time. Pair check. Feedback.
Prepare a map of Istanbul. Give them series of points in Istanbul and the means of transport options. Print out a picture of yourself. Put the picture to a point and ask ss how to get there from British Side. Let them think for a minute and then ask them to discuss in pairs. (If pair work is not an option, ask them to think, make notes and then talk to each other one by one.)
