Description

In this lesson, Ss will get practice in asking for clarification and expressing future arrangements.

Materials

Abc Gap-fill HO, Q/A matching slips, Role play cards

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of language used for Asking for clarification in the context of Airport travel

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of functional language used for asking and answering questions when traveling in the context of airport travel

Procedure

Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • greet ss, make them feel welcome and warm up

HO blank pieces of paper and tell Ss copy what they see on board onto paper End results will be a passport and ticket I will then elicit topic from Ss

Pre-teach (8-10 minutes) • familiarize Ss with Key vocabulary for upcoming Speaking tasks

Pairs Using Gap-fill HO, Ss will see vocabulary in familiar airport check-in context and put appropriate words into corresponding boxes. Ss peer check answers before WGFB (if necessary) Also review the necessary short answers to the gap-fill questions

Speaking Practice (3-5 minutes) • Ss will get semi-controlled speaking practice

Using the Gap-fill HO, Ss will read queue card prompts and perform a short role play between a passenger and an Airline check-in agent.

Pre-teach (5-10 minutes) • Ss will complete a matching activity to familiarize with vocabulary and prepare for next role play

Ss will work together in pairs (or groups optionally) to match questions and answers for a conversation between a student and an immigration officer. Once complete, Ss will read and interact for the first practice Teacher will monitor

Speaking Practice (8-10 minutes) • Ss will practice fluency by doing role play based on previous matching activity

Using role play queue cards and language from matching sheet, one student A will play the role of a traveler and Student B will be the immigration officer at passport control. When complete change roles

Free Speaking practice (Optional Activity) (5-10 minutes) • Ss will discuss airport experiences and opinions on airport travel

Teacher will write discussion topic on front board Ss will all sit together in groups of 4 or 5 and take turns talking about their experiences in airports domestically and internationally.
