Description

In this lesson, SS practice giving a short, rehearsed talk or presentation on a familiar topic. Lesson starts with a conversation about art as the lead-in. Next step is listening for gist activity. It is followed by listening for specific information. Finally, SS will practice speaking using the phrases they encountered in the lesson after a brief preparation.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of history

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about influential work in the context of history

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

teacher welcomes students to class and asks if they are interested in art, if yes, what form and artist; if no, why?

Exposure (4-5 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

SS will listen to a person who is talking about someone whose work influenced her. This will also perform as listening for gist activity

Useful Language (3-7 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

SS will the same record again but this time they will hunt for specific information and underline key phrases they heard.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T explains students will talk about whose work influence them, change the way they look at things. T gives handout-material 2 and gives them 3 minutes to write some notes about what they are going to talk. After 3 minutes SS will talk with their partners, when they are done they will talk with other students thus change their partner, practice speaking further.

Feedback and Error Correction (5-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T will monitor during the productive task section and give delayed error correction. Also asks SS what they learnt about their friends.
