To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation about Ss generation in the context of Personal history
Procedure (34-44 minutes)
Who is the oldest person you know? What kinds of things have they seen change in their lifetime? fashions, transportation,etc... What have you seen change? eg. iphone 5, iphone 6 , elicit list write on board Also integrate & pre-teach names of some decades 70s 90s 2000s
Ss will post vocabulary words about time span on the front board, along a time-line eg. 0<----------------------------------------------------------------------------->1000 years a fortnight ....a decade...a quarter century ....etc Review any new lexis meanings with Ss and check pronunciations
Distribute HO's to Ss, get them to notice the pictures labeled A,B and C Ask Ss what they can recognize in each image? Now we're going to listen to Speakers 1,2 & 3 talking talking about different decades. write a number next to the letter on each picture matching the speaker info to the image. Ss peer check
Ask Ss, what should we do first, listen or read the questions? read the questions Since we're going to listen again, what are we going to do first? read the qs ..ok go ahead Give Ss 2 minutes to read questions for ex 5C peer check, wgfb if necessary
Direct Ss to activity 7a/b you'll speak together about the best things in your generation according to the categories... If there is extra time, they can roleplay about telling their grandchildren of the good 'ol days
