Procedure (32-45 minutes)
-Greet the students and remember their names, introduce yourself. -Ask what type of films/books they learnt in the previous lesson. -What is your favourite type? Why? -Who is your favourite author? Why? -Do you know Agatha Cristie? - She is a writer. Is she dead or alive? -Dead. What kind did she write? - She wrote detective books. -Write this sentence "She wrote detective books" on the board and try to elicit for Past Simple Tense.
-Focus on the possible forms of a Past Simple sentence by CCQs -Do you know Agatha Cristie? - She is a writer. Is she dead or alive? -Dead. What kind did she write? - She wrote detective books. -Write this sentence on the board: "She wrote detective books" and try to elicit for Past Simple Tense. What is the main verb? -Wrote. Is it present or past? -Past. What is the present form? -Write -Also mention the negative and question forms: She __________ (write) detective novels. (-) ____ she ____ detective books? - Yes, she did. -Drill the sentences by using intonation in irregular verb parts.
-Let the students complete Ex.1 with the past forms -Give the Irregular Verbs handout for guidance as a solid FB -Go to Workbook and do the exercise about famous people -Put the verbs into the possible gap in their past forms Here, the students can get help from the list. Peer Check Put the verbs (on the notes) on the board for FB.
-Listen to the pronunciations of the verbs in Ex.1 (2.3) -Give the chart handout to the students so that they can fill the verbs according to their pronunciation -Peer check -Reflect the chart on board -Ss stick the verbs on the right column (WGFB)
-Give instructions: write down the names of two famous people but don't show them to your friend Write some information as in Ex. 2 ICQ: Are you writing two famous people? -Yes Are you showing the names to your friend? -No. Should you check Ex. 2? -Yes.
