Main Aims

To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about ben silbermann in the context of life events
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of life events
Procedure (38-49 minutes)
-After greeting SS. T will state they will talk about life events. ‘’what is life event? Important points in life. Starting school, leaving school, meet someone, marry someone, get a job and have a kid.’’ -T tells SS they will watch a video and wants SS to take note of life events: ‘’ we will watch a video, write down life events. For example, if you see backpack and pen, it means start school’’. -After the video p-p check and whole group discussion.
-Then T gives out hand-out 1a- life events and asks SS to put them in order: ‘’put these life events in order. For example; first, you start school then you study then it goes like that. Will you make a sentence? No.’’ -After they are done with the ordering let them work in pairs and compare the order of events. -Then, SS talk about their own lives and share their thought thus engage in the topic more. -T gives out exercise 2 and explains questions with examples: ‘’ please ask each other these questions and answer. Do you like sharing information about your life on blogs and social networking sites? No, I don’t / Yes, I do because...’’. T gives them 2 minutes.
-T gives out meanings of ordinary-extraordinary with examples:’’ ordinary means you can see it every day, black car, extraordinary means you cannot see it everyday, pink car’’. -Then T gives exercise 3 with ICQ: ‘’ please read questions then the article and answer questions, alone’’, when SS are done with answering T gets them to do p-p check and does WCFB.
In this while-reading activity, SS read the text again and complete information list about ‘’ben silbermann’’. First T gives out meanings of ‘’collect’’ and ‘’interested in’’ by giving examples: ‘’ you collect a stamp, you collect buttons and you collect lighters. Do you sell them? Do you keep them for a long time?. I like movies, I read books about movies, I watch movies; I am interested in movies. Is it something you like?’’. Then gives activity 4 and asks SS to complete the gaps. When SS are doing activities T sticks answers sheets around the room, hiding them. When SS are done T asks them to find answer sheets around the room and check their answers.
this activity is about exercise 5. SS will practice target language. T gives out exercise 5 and gives example answer for each question:’’ now talking part. Look at question 1; I look at Youtube, Facebook, Deviantart. My favorite is Deviantart. I post songs and paintings. I know someone who collects comic books’’
