Description

In this lesson, students will have a chance to practice telling dates (day, month and year). They will listen to records about dates. Also, they will learn how to use was/were born.

Main Aims

Procedure

Lead-in (3-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show Ss A picture about time onto the board and ask them about the day of 'what is the date today', and they have to say the whole date as a leading to the date. All students should be involved.

Exposure (12-14 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Ss will listen to track 9.1 and do Ex1 p.64, they will listen and PW to underline what dates they heard. Afterward, Ss will do WG feedback then W/C FB. Then, Ex2 will be settled (optional), Ss will hear track 9.2 and repeat the years. Finally, Se will see years between 2001 - 2019 and elicit the form to clarify how to say and pronounce them.

Highlighting (5-7 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Show Ss pictures of Jane and Pavarotti onto the board, they have to guess who are they. Ss will see a short clip of one of Pavarotti's songs (optional). Ss will listen to track 9.4 and then they should fill the dates of Ex 2. GW for the ask and W/C FB.

Clarification (5-7 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Ss will show the form of using was/were born on the board by giving real examples, And elicit the correct form Ss. beside to question and negative form I _____ born in 1989. _____ ______ born in 1995. We _______ born in 1980. ______ and ______ _______ born in 1970. When ______ you born?

Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Set an adapted activity (correct and not correct sentences), Ss should work find out the incorrect sentences and correct. They will work in groups, then W/C FB.

Semi-Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check further and let students prduce what they've learned.

Elicit Ss to personalise that have they learned (years and was/were born) by talking about their own family. Handouts the speaking activity, give them 2 mins to think about what would they say and then start the activity(my parents were born in __, my brother was born in ___). They will speak in pairs, then peer will be changed. Finally, we will select few students and ask the class about their families (depends on time).
