To provide specific information listening practice using a text about Simon's daily routine in the context of An interview with Simon
Procedure (33-45 minutes)
. * Ss see pictures of stressed people and answer yes/no questions about them. ex; Is he relaxed? Is she sad? *Ask Ss to look at the picture of Louisa to guess how does she feel? Pre-teach the following words: to cycle (v) ; to travel by bicycle to pick up (v) ; go and collect a babysitter(n) : a person who comes to your house to look after your baby. Ask students to read the article and find answer for the questions; How stressed is Louisa? Why?
Set a time limit for SS to read the article again and ask SS to try to remember the information in the text.
Put Ss in pairs and give them the set of questions and give the SS the instructions to take it in turns to test their partner's memory of the text by asking the questions they have been given.
*Ask SS to focus on the photo of Simon and ask them what he does, where he is, and where he lives and works (Tell the SS that Brighton is about 88 km from London) * Tell the SS that they are going to listen to an interview with Simon. But first they are going to hear some extracts in order to understand more of the interview when they hear it. * Ask SS to focus on the five drawings and tell them to listen to five sentences and that Simon says and to match them to the drawings by writing numbers 1-5 check answers. * Play the CD again and tell the SS to fill in gaps with words they hear. * Ask the ss if they think Simon is stressed and to guess what advice they think the professor will give him. play the CD once or twice to see if they were right. *Finally ask SS who they think is more stressed ,Louisa or Simon. Encourage them to try to say why.
