Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about "visions of the future"

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a pair and group work in the context of future

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows Ss two sets of pictures about robots and humans: - what do you think the time is? past or future? - what do you understand from these pictures? - which one do you think will happen in the future? what changes do you want to see 50 years from now? (tell your partner)

Pre-teach vocab (10-15 minutes) • to make Ss familiar with the new words they are going to face

T gives Ss some handouts and pieces of paper and asks them to match the new words with their definitions. Then Ss read their answers and T checks the problems.

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T divide Ss into 2 groups and gives each S a picture and some pieces of text. Ss need to talk in their groups and read texts and find the one that is related to their own picture.

While-Reading (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with more detailed reading tasks

T asks Ss to do the activity 3 in the book individually. Then they will check their answers in pairs and in the end T gives them the correct answers.

While-Reading #2 (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with more detailed reading tasks

T asks Ss to complete tasks 4 & 5 in pairs. Then Ss read their answers and T checks them.

Post-Reading (10-15 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text while practicing speaking fluency

T asks Ss to make 3 predictions about 50 years later (elicits some ideas from Ss and writes on the board). T asks Ss to talk about and explain their ideas to a partner
