Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of describing their living place and talking about their dream house
Procedure (39-57 minutes)
Have students work in pairs or small groups and discuss the questions on the board. Do you live with your family/friend or alone? Where do you live in Istanbul? Why kind of place is it? Why do some people want to move out of their parents' house and live alone? If you want to move to a new house, where will you move? Why?
Show a photo of a modern house on the screen and ask ss to describe it, elicit "Modern" at this stage. Ss walk around the room and look at the photos on the walls. "How do you describe these houses?" SS should write an adjective under each photo that describes it. They should not write repetitive adjectives.
Ss read the text on page 82 of the book and answer the questions in section 2a. Remind them not to use a dictionary. Compare answers in pairs and then a whole class feedback.
Ss highlight the adjectives that are describing the house or the area in the email. Show the answers on the screen and drill the pronunciations.
Distribute H.O 1 the vocabulary worksheet. Have SS work on the side with photos and match the words to the photos. After checking the answers and recycling the pronunciation quickly, move on to the other side of the worksheet which checks the vocabulary in more semantic depth.
Which of these adjectives can you write under each of the photos on the wall?
SS describe their current house, what kind of place is it and where they would like to live what's their dream house like. a. Use the adjectives you learned today to describe your house to your partner. b. What's your dream house is like? Where is it? Discuss with your partner
Direct Ss to exercise 4 on page 82. Ask them to find the odd one out. After checking the answers have students make example sentences using the collocations. eg. There is a modern Cafe in Etiler named Bizim Cafe which I really like.
