Description

In this lesson students will be familiar with the format of opinion essays writing. They will also get familiar with the marking system.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will present a picture related to the topic to the class, encourage the students to talk about the pictures in groups. Get FB from each group and elicit some information about the topic from them.

Exposure (10-15 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

After presenting the picture and eliciting information from students I'm going to bring up the main title of the essay at first I will elicit vocab from students and then provide them with sets of needed vocab. Give students time to discuss the topic in their groups by using recently given vocabs, I'll get a brief FB from students may be note some down and slightly shift the task from speaking to writing by presenting the structure of IElTs essay on the power point to the students. Afterwards students will receive handout to organize their ideas about the mentioned topic.

Useful Language (5 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

At this stage students will receive a handout with a written instruction and they should use previous hands out and written transitions to complete the first body of their writing. They are also given a rubric for correcting the essay.

Productive Task(s) (8 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

With the use of given hands out students will write first body of the essay

Feedback and Error Correction (5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Students will hang their essays on the wall as an exhibition. Students will stand up with a pen and correct their classmates essay based on the writing rubric.
