Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide gist and detailed listening practice using a text about rules in the context of work and business
Procedure (45-52 minutes)
I will show picture of some people who are working hard all the time and I want them to talk in groups about the questions written on the board. This will engage the students and will provide the opportunity to set them in the context
this stage starts by pre-teaching the blockers in the recording. After highlighting the meaning, pronunciation, and form I will ask some quick CCQs to make sure they understand the meaning. this stage will be done quickly. Next, students will listen to a recording and will choose one title among the three titles given to them (listening for gist). After doing feedback they are asked again to listen and give the correct answer to the detailed questions.
I will draw two sentences form the listening and then write it on the board and ask students if they know what form we are going to work on. students will be given the transcript of the text and are asked to skim the text to find similar forms of the TL. I will write some of the sentences given by the students on the board. Finally, they will be given a matching activity to match the forms with the rules.
the students will be given a controlled practice exercise and are asked to do the exercise within 3 minutes. the students will do a peer check before they are given the answer key. there will be a delayed error correction at this stage.
The students will be given a controlled practice exercise and will be asked to do the exercise within a limited amount of time. they will peer check before I give them the answer key.
students will be asked to imagine that they have a company of their own. they have to write down 10 rules for their company and then go around and then introduce their company and rules to other classmates. I will walk around the class and write down the errors they make and then I will do a delayed error correction.
