Main Aims

  • To provide scan and detailed reading practice using a text about Love in the context of Relationships

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of relationships
  • To provide clarification of relationship words in the context of relationships

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- T reflects the following sentences on the board and asks the students what words are missing. I ………………………….. my best friend at primary school. We have …………………….. each other for about 15 years now. - T asks students to tell the difference between meet and know - WC FB

Pre-Reading/Listening (12-15 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

- T reflects the phrases in reading ex. a and asks them to number the phrases in order according to how likely people are to meet friends and partners. - T puts the students in pairs and asks them to compare their answers with their partners. - WC FB - T gives the students the highlighted words from the article and their definitions and asks them to match them. - T puts them in pairs and asks them to compare their answers with their partners. - WC FB - Then T tells the students to skim read the text and find the answer this question: Why did their relationship nearly never happen? - T puts the students in pairs and asks them to compare their answers. - WC FB

While-Reading/Listening (15-20 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

- T tells the students that they are going to read and listen to an article at the same time to number the events in reading ex. c. - T plays the audio if necessary - T puts the students in pairs and asks them to compare their answers with partners. - WC FB

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

- T tells the students to think of a partner ( if no partner, a friend) and reflects the following questions on the board and asks the students to talk in pairs * how long have you known him/her? * where did you meet? * why do you like him/her? * what do you have in common? * how often do you see each other? * do you think you will stay partners/friends?
