Description

In this lesson Ss will be exposed to new vocabulary - verbs often confused. This will be based on vocabulary and then they use some questions as a speaking practice.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of Verbs Often Confused in the context of Disagreeing with Someone

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a Conversation in the context of Agreeing/Disagreeing

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- Write on the board the following verbs from ex 6a: 1-remind/remember 2- prevent/avoid 3- rise/raise - Ss discuss the difference in meaning - W/C FB

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

- Ss try to remember what they heard in the previous lessons in the listening - Ss do ex 6 a - Give answer key

Useful Language (11-15 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

- Each Ss gets a half of the activity with the right side - verbs meaning - folded to the back - Each Ss does the first sentence only - Ss switch their halves with their partners and do the second sentence - Ss compare with each other - Ss listen and check - Give answer keys - Then, Ss switch paper again and unfold the right side of the paper - verbs column - and read the definitions of 4-5 words of their choice in turns while the other student has to guess what the word is

Semi-Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice; to further consolidate the TL

- Ss do ex 6 c individually - Ss check with their peers - The teacher pulls up the magnified answer keys slowly. Meanwhile, Ss tell their answers before they see the answers completely

Productive Task(s) (5-8 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

- Ss take turns asking each other the questions from ex 6 c - Monitor - Note down mistakes and errors for delayed FB

Flexi-stage (5-7 minutes) • To provide further practice of the TL through a song

- Ss predict the missing words in pairs; the teacher tells them that they rhyme with the previous words in bold - Ss listen to the songs one or twice if needed - FB
