Description

this lesson is going to be taught in the shape of test/teach/test for learning vocabulary. students first start using the target language with no help from the teacher and teacher monitors them to find the areas of their difficulty,and then clarifies them. then they go through controlled practices and freer practices.here the focus is on learning and practicing some verbs, their meaning,pronunciation,collocations,etc.

Procedure

lead-in (2-5 minutes) • to generate interest in the topic/theme of lesson

-show them a picture of carmen. -ask them where do you guess she is from,does she look like British or American people? how old do you think she is do you think she is married? if yes, how many children does she have? where does she work?

testing students( diagnostic) (5-10 minutes) • to test students current understanding and identify gaps in vocabulary

- read the text about carmen and answer questions 1-7 - circle the correct answer - do it alone -ICQs: should you answer the questions? should you do it in pairs? -monitor pay attention to their errors - check their answers -write them on the board

teach( clarifying ) (15 minutes) • to deal with meaning, pronunciation, and form of vocabulary with emphasis on items ss did not know or were confused about

- project some slides about Carmen's life - elicit phrases by clarifying meaning (live in the center of city/ in the city center), work for.../ work in, study English, home vs. house/ flat vs. apartment -pronounce them -write them on the board -choral and individual repetition - tell them they are phrases

second test (controlled practice), (freer practice) (20-23 minutes) • to provide controlled, semi controlled, oral practice of phrases/ and to provide freer oral practice of phrases

controlled practice: - do the exercise 1, put the words in the gaps in pairs - ask icqs: should you answer or put words in the gaps? alone or in pairs? - monitor -check answers -feedback -error correction if needed semi- controlled practice: - model the instruction for the game. take a card,read it,your friend say languages, you say study languages -ask ccqs: -ask icqs: should you say a complete sentence or a phrase? - monitor ( freer practice) - write about yourself - live in osmanbay -have two children - don't show it to your friend -ask icq: should i ask questions ? - should i write about myself? should i write my name? - get them and stick on the wall they walk and read/ correct/ and guess who is it about and write it below the paper. -ask icqs

feedback (5-10 minutes) • to establish correct answers and deal with the results of the task to provide feedback on use of target language - dealing with problems and errors.

- go to each paper on the wall with SS - ask ccqs -check to see if their corrections are right - check to see whether they guessed the right person.
