To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of Space tourism
Procedure (24-42 minutes)
1- I will project a sentence "MyBiggestDreamIs...". (With no SPACE) (Later I will elicit the word "Space" which is missing in my sentence :) 2- Have students pair up and talk about their biggest dream. Ask students to talk about their partners' dream and report it to the class. ICQ: Are you going to tell the class your dream or your partner's dream? (partner's) 3- Get WC feedback. e.g: What is your partner 's biggest dream?
1- Projecting a google image of Steve Bennett, A leading rocket scientist . 2- Write 3 questions: (Prediction) Who is he? What is his dream? do you think his dream came true? 3- Ask students to pair up and discuss the questions with their partner. 4- Get WC Feedback. 5- Hand out the extract reading taken from the course book about Steve Bennett. 6- Students will have a look to find about him. 7- Ss compare their own guesses with the extract, to see weather they are right.
First, Ss pick one color paper in order to be put in 4 groups. Then, The handouts are going to be given to them. Afterwards, the Ss are supposed to put the words in the blanks. Feedback: The early finishers come to the board to write their answers. Finally, the right answers will come up to be compared with Ss' answers. In case I need to elicit the words: 1- Eliciting the word AMBITION By referring picture projected. CCQ : is it a big dream or a small dream? (Big dream) Can ambitions come true? (yes) 2- Eliciting the meaning of SPACE TOURISM, from the same picture. CCQ: Is space tourism available to everyone? (no) Is space tourism for pleasure? (Yes) Is space tourism a job? (No) 3- Eliciting INFLUENCE from the same picture y asking: How Steve Bennett got interested in Space? CCQ: If you influence someone, will you change their behavior? Will their improvement be affected as well? (yes) 4- Eliciting the word ATTITUDE. CCQ: Is attitude they you look at things? (Yes) If you change your attitude, is your life going to change? (yes)
Projecting the gist question on the board. Ask Ss: What's your impression of Steve? Would you describe him as a "realist" or "a dreamer"? Professional or amateur ? Feedback: - Pair Check. - WC FB
1- Students will be handed out the questions. 2- They have 1-2 minutes to take a look at the questions and make sure they understand them. 3- Ss then listen to the audio file for the second time and figure out the answers. 4- When Ss are done, I will ask them to around the class, find a new partner, and double check the answers. 5- Then, the answer key will be handed to them and will also be projected.
1- Ss will be put into a new group by joining 4 different colors. 2- Three questions will be projected. 3- Ss ask the questions and each other's opinion. 4- One student in each group will be assigned as the group manager to report it to the class. ( I 'm going to tell them in advance) Do some ICQs. Are you going to talk or write? (Talk) Are you Going to use the vocabularies in the handout? (yes) How many questions will you discuss? (3) 5- After they are done, those three students who had been chosen earlier will sit in front of the class. Each group will get a flower for as many correct sentences as they make. The more flowers, the higher score. The winner will get a chocolate as a prize.
