Main Aims

  • To provide review and practice of past continuous, past simple, simple past perfect. irregular verbs in the context of travel

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation, debate in the context of travel

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss are told a made-up story that has irregular verbs in it. For the second time, Ss are asked to recognize the irregular verbs and say present forms of the verbs.

grammar (5-7 minutes) • to review past forms of the verbs

Ss are asked to put past forms of the verbs on the wall under certain categories. They will do that in the groups of 4. ICQs: Are you going to put sentences on the wall?(yes) ARE you going to work in groups?(yes)

grammar review (5-7 minutes) • to review the three past tenses

Ss are asked to put sentences under the appropriate words like when, before, after etc in groups.

intonation (5-7 minutes) • to improve the way Ss say sentences naturally

Ss are asked to read a passage on page 27 and say sentences to emphasize some words.

intonation (5-7 minutes) • to improve the way Ss say sentences naturally

Ss are asked to read the passage on page 153 to their groups

exploiting the intonation activity (5-7 minutes) • to improve the way Ss say sentences naturally

Ss are asked to sit in a circle and read either the story on page 27 or 153 to their classmates.

speaking (5-7 minutes) • to improve the way Ss say talk freely and confidently

Ss are asked to choose one of three stories on page 27 and tell their groups their stories.

Exploiting the speaking activity (5-7 minutes) • to improve the way Ss talk naturally and confidently

Ss are asked to be in a circle and tell the class their story
