Main Aims

To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about chances in the context of romantic relationships

Subsidiary Aims

To provide practice of lexis about telling past activities in the context of romantic relationships

Procedure (33-45 minutes)

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students watch a short video about and in pairs try to guess what the topic of the lesson is.

Pre-Reading (3-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Students look at the questionare and in pair discuss how do people usually meet and what are the most popular ways to meet people that they have seen/heard of.

While-Reading #1 (9-13 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

Students read the text Love at exit 19 alone. After, in pairs they put different key moments of the text in the order in which they appear in the text.

While-Reading #2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Students look at the highlighted words in the text and in pairs match them with their meaning.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Students think about an amazing love story that they have witnessed (their own, their parents, or their friends) and plan on how they are going to tell that story. After, they work in groups of 3 or 4 people to share their stories.
