Procedure (31-46 minutes)
I will ask Ss to tell me how they think people usually meet friends and partners nowadays? After a quick open class conversation, we will get to the main tasks.
For them to get used to more I will ask the Ss to think of a couple they know well, e.g. their parents or friends. - How did they meet? - Do you know any couples who met in unusual circumstances?
We will do the listening activity 3.16 on page 49 where they will listen to four people talking about where they met their partner. They will match the answers from the first exercise 1a.
They will listen to the four people again but this they will focus on how people met and take notes. I will ask them to compare their notes in pairs and then I will ask them; - Which meeting do you think was the most romantic?
Through their answers I will check if they know clearly how to use "used to" and ask them how would they change the sentences below if they wanted to talk about present habits or situations? - We used to go to bars and restaurants together on Saturday night. - It used to be quite difficult to meet people.
Here they will have a communicative activity called "How did they change our world?" Where students talk about inventions and what life used to be like before they existed. Language: - used to - didn't used to I will try to elicit one positive and one negative answer with them. For example; What did people use to do before the electric light was invented? - They used to go to bed when it was dark (+) - They didn't use to stay up late at night (-)
