Description

In this lesson, students will learn about jobs through guided discovery based on a listening text about three people.The lesson will with discussion about the pictures.This is followed by two questions in the photos.Then,they will listen track 5.4 and answer the questions.After listening again, they will do exercise 3- true-false part.Finally, they will do some controlled practice with following questions in exercise 4.

Main Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a discussing in the context of Jobs

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about work in the context of Jobs
  • To provide clarification of Doing something different in the context of Jobs

Procedure

Stage 1-Warm Up (5-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Stick some pictures on the board and ask the students what they see in those pictures. -Tell them discuss about the pictures with their pairs -Check the answers in pairs

Stage 2-Pre listening (5-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-Divide students into pairs -Give students a hand out -Tell the students look at the photos in those pictures -Ask them what they are doing in those pictures? -Check the answers

Stage 3-While Reading (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

-Tell the students read about the people in the photos and answer the questions -Tell the students discuss the answers with their pairs -Check the answers

Stage 4-While listening (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference /listening

-Tell the students look at exercise 2 -Tell them listen to track 5.4 and answer the questions -Tell the students discuss the answers with their pairs -Check the answers in pairs

Stage 5-Listening for specific information (7-9 minutes) • To provide students to find specific information

-Tell the students listen to record again and look at exercise 3 and decide they are true or false -Tell the students to do with their pairs -Check the answers in pairs

Stage 6-Speaking activity-(Mingling activity) (5-6 minutes) • To provide students to do some speaking activity

-Tell the students to look at exercise 4 -Tell the students to stand up and find a new partner around the classroom -Tell the students to discuss the questions with their pairs -Monitor them when they are doing mingling activity

stage 7- Eliciting new vocab (3-5 minutes) • To provide the students elicit new vocab and practice them

-Give students a hand out -Tell the students match the definitions with words -Tell the students discuss the answers with their pairs -Check the answers

Stage 8-Speaking activity by using new vocab-Mingling activity (5-7 minutes) • To practice about new words by using visual materials

-Tell the students to stand up and look at pictures around the classroom -Find a new partner around the classroom -Look at the pictures and decide with your partner for each job which statements is true?(e.g:Engineer:creative,tiring,stressful e.g:lecturer:rewarding,creative,challenging -Check the answers in pairs
